Washer Not Filling With Water?
A washer that starts a cycle but never fills, or fills painfully slowly, almost always traces back to the water supply system — not the drum or motor. We find the exact cause on site and give you a real price before we start.
Why Your Washer Isn’t Filling With Water
If the machine powers on and starts a cycle but no water ever enters the drum, or it trickles in far slower than normal, the problem is almost always somewhere between your home’s water supply and the tub. Here’s what we see most often on service calls in Ventura County:
A failed water inlet valve. This is the part that opens to let water into the machine. When it fails electrically or gets stuck closed, no water gets through even though everything else runs normally.
Clogged inlet screens. Small mesh filters sit inside the water inlet valve where the supply hoses connect, and they trap sediment and mineral buildup over time. A clogged screen is one of the most common causes of a slow or weak fill.
Water supply valves not fully open. The shut-off valves behind the machine sometimes get bumped or aren’t turned back on fully after a move or repair, which restricts or stops the flow entirely.
A kinked or crimped supply hose. If the machine has been pushed back against the wall, the hoses can kink behind it and cut off flow even with everything else working.
Low household water pressure. Some washers need a minimum pressure to trigger the fill sensor correctly — if pressure is low household-wide, the machine may fill slowly or not detect a full fill at all.
A faulty water level or pressure switch. This part tells the control board how much water is in the tub. If it fails, the machine can think the tub is already full and never open the valve to begin with.
Signs Worth Mentioning on the Call
Let us know whether no water comes in at all or it’s just very slow, whether this affects hot, cold, or both, and whether you’ve checked that the shut-off valves behind the machine are fully open. Also mention if the machine is newly installed or was recently moved. That helps us bring the right parts on the first visit.
What a Repair Visit Looks Like
We start by checking the supply valves, hoses, and inlet screens, since blockages there account for a large share of fill complaints and are often the fastest fix. If those are clear, we test the inlet valve itself and the water level switch. Once we’ve confirmed the cause, we walk you through the fix and cost before doing any work.
